Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Square Pixel Software (“we”, “us”) collects through squarepixelsoftware.ca and the Frame Archivist application, why we collect it, and how it is handled. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party trackers. We do not use advertising, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking of any kind, and we load no external scripts or fonts. Because of this, no cookie-consent banner is required to use the site.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist or buy

• First name and email address — so we can contact you about availability and, for purchases, deliver your license key and receipt.

When you use the Frame Archivist app

• The app runs locally on your device; your photos, catalog, and metadata never leave your computer. The app makes two limited network requests:
• Timezone lookup — if you use the optional timezone-correction feature, the place name you type is sent to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) to resolve its timezone. No photos or personal data are included.
• License check-in — while a license is active, the app periodically sends a best-effort message containing your license ID and an anonymous device identifier (a random value generated on your device; it contains no hardware, account, or personal data). This lets us verify licensing and detect license sharing. It never blocks the app, and the app works fully offline.

How your information is used

• To operate the waitlist and notify you when Frame Archivist is available.
• To process purchases, deliver license keys, and provide support.
• To administer and protect our licensing (the check-in described above).

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for marketing.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of processors to run the service:

• DigitalOcean — hosting for the website and its database.
• Amazon Web Services (SES) — sending transactional email (license keys, receipts).
• OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — timezone lookups, only when you use that in-app feature.
• [PLACEHOLDER: Payment processor, e.g. Stripe] — will process payments once purchasing is enabled; card details are handled by the processor and never reach our servers.

Storage and retention

Data is stored on servers we control at DigitalOcean. We keep waitlist entries until you ask to be removed or the waitlist is retired, and purchase records for as long as needed to support your license and meet legal/accounting obligations.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under Canada's PIPEDA and Alberta's PIPA, the EU/UK GDPR, and California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email chris.black@squarepixel.org and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

The site and app are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy; the “last updated” date above will change when we do. Material changes will be reflected here.
